The British Council announced the winners of the Study UK Alumni Awards 2023-24 in Jordan at Intercontinental Hotel Amman on 20th February 2024. In total, 5 UK alumni were recognised as finalists this year for their outstanding achievements as business professionals, entrepreneurs and community leaders, and for their contribution to strengthening ties between the UK and Jordan. 

The announcement was made in the presence of the UK Ambassador to Jordan, Mr Philip Hall, His Excellency Prof. Thafer Assaraira, President of the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission for Higher Education Institutions, representatives from the higher education government sector, presidents of universities, UK alumni, and other members of the community in Jordan. 

Following rigorous evaluation by the judging panel, winners were selected for the two award categories: Science and Sustainability Award and Social Action Award. 

The prestigious international award celebrates UK higher education and the achievements of UK alumni worldwide. Now in its tenth year, the award received over 1,450 applications from international UK alumni in more than 100 countries, representing more than 140 UK higher education institutions. 

  • Science and Sustainability award was presented to Dr Jumana Ma’touq.
  • Social Action award was presented to Dr Derar Abdel Qader.

Alex Lambert, Country Director Jordan and Levant Cluster Lead, commented on the award event: “It is a real pleasure and honour to host the UK Alumni Awards Ceremony for the third year to recognise and celebrate the success stories of Jordanians who have studied in the UK. The winners and finalists represent a range of sectors in Jordan and it’s important that we highlight the positive achievements they have made. We hope they will inspire many others to follow in their footsteps and benefit from the UK’s world-renowned education and wish them the best of luck in continuing to contribute positively to their community and the whole of Jordan.”

The British Ambassador to Jordan, Philip Hall, said: "Many congratulations to all the talented people who received UK Alumni Awards today!  The awards honour outstanding contributions by Jordanians who have applied their UK education to make an especially positive impact in Jordan. The awards today recognise exceptional contributions in the fields of Science, Sustainability and Social Action. We are enormously proud of them all.”
