Connect and collaborate with universities, colleges, education policymakers and other partners in the UK and worldwide.

Universities and colleges are vital for social and economic growth. We urgently need the ideas and skills they generate to tackle climate change, poverty, and other global challenges.

Going Global Partnerships is about working together internationally to ensure that higher education and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) meet the needs of our societies, economies, and students. Find out what we offer you.

Building stronger, more inclusive, internationally connected higher education and TVET systems.

Going Global Partnerships builds stronger, more inclusive, internationally connected higher education and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) systems. This British Council programme supports partnerships between universities, colleges, education policymakers, civil society organisations and industry partners in the UK and worldwide.

Through Going Global Partnerships, you can:

  • Build relationships and share good practices with international partners on topics such as transnational education, employer engagement and more
  • Develop scientific collaboration and gain pilot or early-stage funding for research partnerships focused on climate change, public health and other subjects
  • Access grant funding for collaborative partnerships that support quality, inclusion and innovation in higher education and TVET delivery.

At a system-level, the programme brings together policymakers and practitioners to support international co-operation in higher education and TVET – for example by developing mutual recognition of qualifications and quality assurance agreements.

Programme goals

By building stronger international connections, Going Global Partnerships strengthens higher education and TVET systems, enables research collaboration, internationalises institutions, enhances student outcomes and supports inclusion.

The overall expected outcomes of the programme focus on:

  • Enabling research: supporting research, knowledge, and innovation collaboration to address local and global challenges and promote inclusive growth
  • Internationalising higher education and TVET institutions: creating an enabling environment and supporting institutions and individuals to benefit from internationalisation
  • Strengthening higher education and TVET systems: improving the quality and efficiency of institutions and systems
  • Enhancing student outcomes: improving the qualities of global graduates (e.g., soft skills, employability, community outcomes).

Our Activities

Curriculum Reform and Enhancing Teaching Quality in Jordanian Universities
Our initiative is dedicated to improving the quality of education in Jordanian universities through various key activities:

1. Capacity-Building Workshops
We support the design of market-driven courses that align with industry needs. Our capacity-building workshops focus on:
  • Learning Outcomes Assessment: Workshops designed to create and assess learning outcomes in line with the Jordan National Qualification Framework.
  • Digitalisation of Higher Education: Workshops aimed at integrating digital tools and methods into teaching and learning practices.
  • Development, Teaching, and Assessment of Learning Outcomes: Training programs to enhance staff capabilities in delivering outcome-based education.

2. Supporting the Jordan National Qualification Framework (JNQF)
The British Council plays a crucial role in supporting the implementation and development of the Jordanian National Qualification Framework (JNQF). Our activities, in collaboration with Cotswold Research Consultancy and the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission for Higher Education Institutions (AQACHEI), focus on:
  • Providing Technical Expertise: Offering input through online webinars, face-to-face workshops, scoping visits, and detailed reports to assist with the development and implementation of the JNQF.
  • Promoting Awareness: Increasing engagement of academic staff with the JNQF and fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing across educational institutions.
  • We work with international partners, such as the Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework Partnership, to offer insights and solutions for the challenges of JNQF implementation.

3. Curricula Reform
The Blended and Online Learning Design (BOLD) approach, developed by Strathclyde University in 2019, meets the growing demand for blended and online learning. This innovative, evidence-based framework incorporates best practices from various fields, including instructional design and quality assurance. Key elements include:
  • Utilizing Bloom’s taxonomy to cohesively design curricula for in-person, blended, and online formats.
  • Through our partnership with Strathclyde University. We have conducted BOLD workshops that guide participants through the framework while enhancing their knowledge and skills in curriculum design.

Transforming Higher Education in Jordan
The British Council is committed to providing expertise, training, and collaborative opportunities to enhance teaching quality and ensuring the relevance of education to the job market.

Across the globe, Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen-AI) has permeated higher education, bringing with it a blend of excitement, anxiety, and curiosity among both staff and students. In a remarkably short period, Gen-AI has already begun reshaping the landscape of learning, teaching, and assessment.
In collaboration with University of Strathclyde, British Council delivered a full day capacity building workshop focusing on Gen-AI in Higher Education and introducing participants to some of the most popular and widely available Gen-AI tools, shedding light on their capabilities and significance. Through practical demonstrations and activities. More than 117 Academics from 27 Public and Private universities attended the workshop and were exposed to latest trends and methods used within Gen-AI.
